An opportunity to make a real difference to the long-term conservation and protection of some of the most beautiful countryside in the Yorkshire Dales.

Volunteering with Nidderdale National Landscape is a great way to make friends, learn new skills, and get fit. We also provide a varied training programme which is free for regular volunteers.

There are lots of different ways you can get involved with volunteering in Nidderdale National Landscape and we offer a number of roles:

Our conservation volunteers are a hands-on group who meet every Tuesday to carry out practical conservation tasks across the National Landscape.  Tasks include woodland management, scrub clearance, footpath repair, pond restoration, and fencing.  No experience needed – we provide the tools and training.

Our volunteers involved in surveying and researching contribute to the conservation and protection of habitats and species across the National Landscape. Whether you are a trained botanist or simply have an interest in the Yorkshire countryside, we would be thrilled to hear from you. Training and support is provided, previous experience is not always needed.

We are always in need of great photographs and videos to showcase our work and illustrate the beauty of the area in our publications, on our website and on social media. With limited budgets we aren’t always able to fund new imagery but we know there are some great amateur photographers out there who capture some wonderful shots and love an opportunity to share their work.

If you have a passion for photography or videography and would be willing to share your images with us we would love to hear from you.

Looking for help with a local project?

Live in the National Landscape and need some help from our volunteer teams on a conservation project? Find out more about where we work and what we do.

Our volunteer groups are always looking for new sites to work on. With up to 20 people they can get a lot done in a short time.

  • Eligibility: to be considered for volunteer support, your project must deliver clear conservation benefits. It must also involve one of the following: Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) or Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC); on a public access route or be a special project delivering a range of conservation benefits.

In return for the efforts of the volunteers, we would appreciate a donation which all goes back into the volunteer programme.  Donations help pay for tools, training and equipment for example.
