One of the most stunning places to visit is the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, part of a vast National Trust site covering 323 hectares. The site includes the most complete remains of a Cistercian Abbey, and more than 10 historic buildings, including a beautiful Victorian church and only surviving Cistercian corn mill.
There is also a medieval deer park, several ornamental lakes and intricately designed landscapes. Studley Royal Water Garden, created by John Aislabie, is part of the site and one of England’s most important 18th Century water gardens.
